Dog Training & Behavior Modification
Dog training means much more than sitting up to take a bow or jumping through hoops. Properly done, an obedience course can increase the communication and understanding between pet and owner.
What will my dog learn?
Your dog is intelligent. A wide range of things can be taught, but we only concentrate on teaching those things that promote good behavior, good control and understanding.
Why is that important?
Obedience training gives you an opportunity to understand how your dog works and thinks. It gives your dog a chance to know the rules and what is expected of him. A well taught dog is a joy to have around, to take for walks, to enjoy their company. This is the reason why most people decide to have a dog in the first place. By training you are creating a bond between dog and master that will make the relationship for both that much more meaningful.
There are an almost unlimited amount of training methods in the field. There might be a different method for every dog trainer!
While one book or video will tell you to do something, another will tell you not to. Use food to train! Don’t use food to train! Use corrections! Don’t use corrections!
The “absolutes” school of training (whether it be solely positive or negative teaching methods), are confusing and unworkable. Both extremes fail to deliver consistent results in a wide range of dogs.
Absolutes in a training method do not succeed because every dog is different. Treating each dog as an individual, with the appropriate balance of rewards and corrections, is the only way to make training enjoyable for the dog and effective for the owner.
The common sense approach to training addresses each dog on an individual basis and uses a combination of many teaching techniques to get the expected results while maintaining the dog’s enjoyment for learning.
With over 20 years of hands-on teaching experience and over 4,000 graduates of our training program, we have had the opportunity to try every method of training in the field.
From clicker-training to the strict methods used by military and police, we have had the opportunity to use a wide variety of training techniques.
How long will it take? How much does it cost? What are my training options?
We currently run several different kinds of courses. In essence, these courses concentrate on different aspects of training. They are:

Is your dog’s behavior such that you’ve thought about giving him up or finding him a new home? Does he display fearful or aggressive behavior to such an extent that he can be a liability to have around? Or perhaps there are just some odd and annoying behaviors that you haven’t been able to solve such as toilet training, chewing on furniture or barking?
If so, a course in behavior modification may be the solution.
Problem behaviors can be solved through one-on-one consultation with a professional trainer. We believe that a dog in trouble deserves to be saved from a life of crime and deserves to keep his home. Your dog deserves to be rehabilitated, and you, his owner, deserve to hear the truth, and not confusing nonsense that justifies the problem without actually solving it.
